For females you’d need to be going a low 23. For males you’d need to be going a low 20.

Cal had three guys this past year under 19.3 and two women at 22.31 and 22.21 (the NCAA champion).

Although he’s a distance swimmer, one of my kids wanted to go to Cal. He goes 4:26 in the 500, 15:17 in the 1650, 1:46 in the 200 fly and 49.3 in the 100 fly. Cal talked with him once and then never returned another call.

Keep in mind that Cal has been one of the top NCAA Div I schools for decades. Their womens team won the NCAAs a year ago. The women this year took third and the men took second. Many swimmers would like to go there but, for both men and women, they recruit only those who are worthy of a scholarship and even then, those who get recruited and offered a ride get only a partial ride (my swimmer got a 90% ride from an East Coast school – I’m in California).
