My suggestion would be to call around in the industry you want to work in and find out the feeling about online degrees. Some are not recognized, BUT there are some that are, and have a wonderful reputation. A lot of people are opting for online degrees or distance education, so, I’m sure where the opinion was once of distaste, it is slowy changing!

I know many people who have done course work through Athabasca University, and swear by it! Check them out: http://www.athabascau.ca/ (they are an accredited university!)

You know, people should not answer questions about which they know nothing.

An online degree holds the same weight as a residence degree as long as it is accredited by a recognized accreditation organization. No, A degree from Walden University isn’t as good as one from Duke, but what is? Walden or APU are about the same, academically as most state schools.

Stay away from U. of Phoenix, it gets a lot of bad press, not because it isn’t accredited, just that they are expensive and student and employee comatose.

Here’s the link to the US Gov accreditation site. Look carefully, some online schools make up names of organizations that sound legit.
