I work for a large Mechanical Contracting Co in a major city (Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, etc) and our project manager (with a lot of experience) make close to 100k base salary, plus bonuses. You have to be able to keep track of multiple possibly multi-million dollar jobs, keep paperwork and material ordering up to date, get change orders (work not included in contract) approved quickly, its pretty high pressure work. Apply to general contractors or larger sub-contracting firms – some of our guys have degrees in mechanical engineering for HVAC, etc – there are probably tech schools that offer construction mgmt programs – estimating and reading blueprints also is important to learn – CAD experience is helpful – you would probably start as an Asst Proj Mgr – $30-40k+ depending on what part of country you’re in
