Can I get my associates degree online and then apply to real colleges when I’m ready for my BA?

By | August 30, 2015

I have to go back to community college to get my damn associates degree because depression and other things caused me to drop out. I’m 25 and I know I have a gift when it comes to writing. One of my dreams is to go to a college in NYC. I can’t go anywhere until I finish my Associates. I have almost every credit needed, but when I went back last year…it took a lot out of me and bad things happened constantly there (not to mention the teachers were ridiculous).

So can I get my Associates online, and then apply to real college after I get the degree?

I don’t know what your GPA and etc. is right now, but you don’t have to wait until you get your associates in order to transfer. If you want to, you could apply to transfer right now, just as you are.

If, however, you’d prefer to get your associates first, you can do so. You may even be able to complete it at your current college, by doing online classes with them. Might be worth checking into, if you think that would resolve your issues at the school.

If you do decide to transfer to another school for your associates, make sure the school is reputable, and that it’s regionally accredited. If it’s not those two things, you won’t be able to transfer into a decent school to finish your bachelors. And if you’re looking at really good writing schools like NYU, then you want to avoid all the for-profit colleges like U of Phoenix. Please. It’s best to avoid them in general, but if you want the elite schools for your bachelors, then avoiding them is an absolute must.
